Smoke On! – 2014 Red Bull Air Race Schedule and Pilots Released

20131007-170723.jpgAfter a single year break turned into a four year absence, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship is back! From March 2014 to November 2014, twelve veteran pilots will take their aerobatics prowess to the skies of the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America. Returning American veteran and twice World Champion, Kirby Chambliss commented, “Looking forward to getting back in the drivers seat of the V3! Smoke on!”

Released on October 7th 2013, the Red Bull Air Race schedule is currently:

1st March 2014 – Corniche breakwater - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

18th May 2014 – Putrajaya Lake - Putrajaya, Malaysia

27th July 2014 - Seaside Boulevard – Gdynia, Poland

24th August 2014 – Ascot Race Course – Ascot, United Kingdom

14th September 2014 – Texas Motor Speedway - Dallas / Fort Worth, USA

12th October 2014 – Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas, USA

2nd November 2014 – Unknown – Shanghai (?), China

At seven stages long the 2014 season will be longer than 2010 and 2009 but only the fourth longest in the races history. The more observant amongst you will notice that the last stage of the World Championship is to head to China but there are no details on where the venue or location is due to be held. The website page mentions Beijing and Shanghai, though the article carries an aerial shot of Shanghai. Previously Red Bull Air Race series have been cut short or venues skipped due to local planning difficulties and late authorisation, this was the primary motive for the initial year off to further planning.

There will be almost all of the 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship pilots returning to all seven stages. Sadly it would appear that after three years Russian aerobatics champion, Sergey Rakhmanin and 2010 season Brazilian rookie, Adilson Kindlemann are not returning to the Championship. Currently the pilots listed as competing are:

2008 World Champion – Hannes Arch – Austria

2009 & 2010 World Champion – Paul Bonhomme – UK

2003 World Champion – Peter Besenyei – Hungary

2004 & 2006 World Champion – Kirby Chambliss – USA

2009 & 2010 Competitor – Matthias Dolderer – Germany

2004-2010 Veteran (only 1 of 8 pilots to win a stage) – Michael Goulian – USA

2009 Third Place Podium Finisher – Matt Hall – Australia

2004-2010 Veteran (Two time Stage winner) – Nicolas Ivanoff – France

2010 Third Place Podium Finisher – Nigel Lamb – UK

2009-2010 Competitor – Pete McLeod – Canada

2009-2010 Competitor - Yoshihide Muroya – Japan

2010 Season Rookie – Martin Sonka – Czech Republic

There are several oddities on the RBAR website which seem to suggest a rushed launch, Dolderer is listed with a Danish flag instead of his native Germany and Besenyei, Lamb and Arch do not carry a national flag but instead carry the Red Bull Sports logo.

  1. Australia is off the venue list? I know Perth dropped the race but it was still the best venue therefore a shame to see it go from Aus

  3. Very excited the this is back on track – saw the last two races at Winsor – but will shot for Vegas – saw first race on Fox sport one – not sure who is producing – but is was not as good as live feed at Winsor – no speed , no gs, and the could of done better or making the race more interesting – see moto gp or F1 – plus who ever is doing commenter needs to be replaced – boring and most is not accurate – from a fan also know a thing about aviation Lt Col USAF AND degree from ERAU – the fixs to tv are very simple – highlight the race at all times
